I hope you have enjoyed reading about Lacan and Hagrid, but what I want you all to know is that it's not just Hagrid, this goes beyond the Harry Potter books. I know I have quoted how "everyone is born into a state of lack" and it is true. Some of us substitute our lack in a healthy way, for example it could be through art, music, sports, and several other ways. But there are unhealthy ways to substitute our lack as we saw with Hagrid we see people out there who get addicted to drugs, alcohol, or become dependent upon abusive relationships. When you come upon a friend who seems as though they are doing something like this talk to them, because Lacan also said it is a constant cycle that we deal with our whole lives so don't dismiss it as a phase, it will continue to happen. Also don't depend on them to come to you for help or to express their problems, they probably don't see it the same way you do; just like Hermione could see how wrong it was for Grawp to abuse Hagrid, but Hagrid didn't see it the same way.
I also want to bring attention to a part in the series where Hagrid substituted his lack in a healthy way. He became the Care for Magical Creatures teacher at Hogwarts, after his record was cleared when they found the one responsible for the killings. Here he could interact and share his knowledge of creatures in a controlled environment he isn't hiding these beasts anymore. There is always a healthy alternative.
